Comments:
20 meters seemed weaker than in past weeks, even to the west coast. Backscatter
signals seemed weaker and very few QSOs were possible except to the W6/7 area on
20 M. 40 M was noisy. (It was so noisy that I decided before the contest to
try 80 only as a last resort. We had thunderstorms in the area. However,
signals on 40, particularly from the west coast were much better than they have
been. The difference between the dipole at 40' which favors the west and the
zepp at 40' which favors the north east was very noticeable, whereas some
Thursdays there has seemed to be little difference. More new stations turned
out (welcome!) and I believe more multipliers were available. I heard, but did
not work SD and OH and still worked more mults than ever before. So, the score
is my highest even though I made 6 more QSOs last week. Again, very good SO2R
practice, but I still need more for Sprint-type of operation. I have never had
the courage to try SO2R in a real NA Sprint, but this may give me the nudge I
need to try it in September. Thanks for the QSOs and see you next week.
FT1000MP x 2, SO2R with DX Doubler, 100 watts output, TH6DXX on 20 and dipole
and zepp on 40.
There were at least three GA stations on this week (myself + N5VI & N4PN). With
K4LW who was on last Thursday, 4 GA stations have participated. Could that be a
record for a state other than CA and maybe TX?
73,
John, K4BAI.
