Comments:
Lousy conditions and propagation of the "one way" kind made this a challenging
contest to play in. Very short Es openings on Saturday, with many lasting only
seconds. A few contacts could not be completed due to these short openings.
Sunday was a blast! That is, if you like the serene sounds of static with
interludes of power line interference. Thank goodness for the locals who stopped
by to chat and to drop of some points. It was also fun to run some PSK31
experiments on 2 meters with Skip, KH6TY, on Sunday morning.
Rig: FT-897
6m: single homebrew halo @ 37ft, 100W
2m: 2 stacked homebrew halos @ 32ft + 5/8wl collinear @ 35ft, 50W
70cm: 4 stacked homebrew halos @ 22ft, 20W
All the antennas are hanging in trees. None are in the clear, which is
definitely a problem. The 70cm stack is a welcome addition. At least now I can
hear some DX on 70cm, but the 20 Watts this radio makes was not enough to
complete the contacts with them. Thanks to all who tried!
Many thanks to all who pointed their antennas towards the Charleston, SC area.
Weak signal interest is starting to pick up around here, so please keep us in
mind in future contests. We can use your help!
