Comments:

I decided to do a multi2 because of a class commitment for Saturday morning, and
wanting to do a full time effort. The weather forecasters were predicting an ice
storm to hit here, so K7ZS and W7ZB decided to arrive here the night before.
K7GK arrived at 6:00 am the morning of the test. Then the rain started, falling
on frozen ground, and by 8:00 am, it was a sheet of ice everywhere, and then my
class was canceled, but we had all team members here, and ready to go!

We listened on 10m up to the start, with very few signals heard, but started
there anyway, along with 15m. Ten picked up with good runs, and 15m was hot, and
we stayed on these bands until moving the ten station to 20m late in the third
hour. We had great runs on 15m until the beginning of the 6th hour, and moved
that station to 40m, which never stopped producing great runs! Eighty meters was
very difficult for us, never producing much, and the shunt fed tower for 160m
gave us only 44 q?s. The eighty meter bobtails, one NE x SW, and the other SE x
NW, play ok, but we never felt loud (100w + west coast + low bands=few mults).

We had lots of food and drink, DVD movies, and great company. We watched the
ongoing news of the ice storm which completely shut down the Portland metro
area. At end of contest, no one could leave, so it was party time. The thaw came
mid-Sunday, and chaining up was the only way down the mountain. A 12 hour
contest turned into a full weekend here at Smoke Ranch. Thanks fellows for
planning ahead, and getting here, and sorry about not being able to leave! It
was a fun contest, and a great social event. Thanks to all the great operators
out there, we?ll see you next time?..Brad
