What a blast! 10M is still one of my favorite contests. Could have bumped score
up a bit if I had wrked SSB as well especially since ARRL ruiles state that if
you use spotting you have to submit as Multi-one, mixed mode. But my love for cw
kept me below 28.100. This was truly one for the grinders. Worked in shack on
other stuff while N1MM was auto CQing and I was waiting for band openings.
Trying to figure out when the band will be open and to where is always a
challenge with low solar activity. Worked all of 1 and 2 land on Friday night.
Saturday was vy spotty everywhere. Saw the geomagnetic storm building early
Sunday morning and hoped it would stir things up for us northern folks... Caught
the Europen opening on Sunday morning: Corsica first at 1240Z, wound down with
OK1 and a ZS1 at 1500Z, then Norway/Sweden last at 1530Z. Opened quick and shut
down quick. Still trying to figure out where the EA4 came from at 1615Z; he
called me on my run freq with the beam pointed stateside! As Europe closed S.
America and Carrib signals appeared, then California. Couple of nice runs
stateside on Sunday during day as MUF got up to 28 MHz. Seemed to have pipeline
during day to FL and TX both days. Worked nearly all stateside with beam pointed
SW. Missed ND and DE for WAS. Thanks to those that worked me and see you all
next year!
Best 73, de Mike, N1IW
