Comments:

I would call this contest "September in June". Not only was the wx kind of
fall-like - 70 degs, very low humidity and sunny - but the conditions were more
like a September contest too. 6 meters was a total disappointment with a total
of only 32 E-skip qso's and 15 grids. I kept waiting and waiting in vain for it
to open up, hi! But with 6 not open , acitivity on 2 M and up was very good for
a June contest, especially one where the condx were generally not all that
great. We did have some nice enhancement right along the coast both Saturday
night/Sunday morning and Sunday night, but it was very local with no real Dx
worked. W3IY/R was in the right place at the right time as he was almost a full
pin on all bands through 10 ghz from FM17. By the time they were in FM27 a
couple of hours later condx were pretty much back to normal. Tropo condx to the
west were below normal most of the weekend. I didn't even have FN12 or 13 in WNY
on most bands until late Sunday afternoon. I think we were in a different wx
pattern along the coast most of the weekend. Tried wsjt again and made 8 qso's
which was fun and added new mults. It's a tough call as a single-op on how much
of this stuff to do - the q's can take awhile but it's a very reliable mode for
adding otherwise unworkable grids. I did work K2DRH on both 6 and 2 in about 6
minutes (15 sec sequences helped) and K9NS in the minimum 4 sequences. Both were
in multiple times on each sequence making it very easy.

Overall, activity was good. I worked more q's on 222 and up than ever before in
a June contest. Mult's were very good too as the rovers did a great job. As
always, condx and rovers are the biggest variables in my score and while the
condx didn't come through as hoped, the rover results were better than ever. A
huge tnx to W3IY, N2LBT, K1DS/N1XKT, AL1VE, N1JEZ, W1AUV,VE3NPB, N1QVE, KJ1K
and several others - you guys made the contest for me and I'm sure lot's of
other guys. Let's hope with whatever rule changes come about the rovers have
ample incentive to keep on going out. Without them we all lose!

One unusual thing I noticed in looking at my rate sheet is that I never had any
really huge hours . Just lot's of hours at 35 - 50 qso's. Usually I start off
with big hours and keep it above 40 qso' per hour for Saturday but then have
many hours in the 20's on Sunday. This time I had 4 hours over 40 on Sunday and
one over 50 (during the limited 6 meter e-skip). So activity just kept going
which made for few slow moments. Unfortunately my xyl was out with the kids
Sunday evening and had car problems so I took an hour out to go "rescue" them. I
returned for the last 2.5 hours and averaged over 45 qso's an hour in that
time-span. I'm sure my qso rate at the end of a contest, including a 47 qso last
hour, has never been as high without a 6 meter E-skip opening. I have no idea
what created this but it was a great way to finish up. My qso total Sunday was
higher than Saturday - very unusual. So no real big highs or lows but nice and
steady throughout.

The nice wx also was great as I have no air conditioning in my shack. In June I
usually literally sweat it out in the shack but the cool wx made for great
operating condx. And, other than my xyl's car, their were no real equipment
problems. All in all a fun contest and first time I've cracked 600k in a
contest. Tnx for all the q's and CU next time. Maybe we'll get that big E-skip
opening in the September contest - "June in September"?? 73, Jeff K1TEO
