Comments:
Due to a family crisis and my wife being out in San Diego, I was unable to run
some of the rarer northern WI counties as I have for the past 11 years. So, I
opted to drive about an hour north of Madison and activate 4 counties that don't
seem to have much activity, Columbia, Adams, Sauk, and Juneau. I managed to get
in about 4 1/2 hours, although some of that time was spent driving, and some of
it fixing antenna problems. I operated entirely on CW. Forty was long from the
start, close in stations were very weak. I opted not to get on 80 because my
antenna doesn't work very well there and there seems to be little activity there
until late afternoon. I only worked 5 WI counties. Even the fixed stations with
excellent antennas like N9CK and WE9V were weak. I heard only a few of the other
mobiles and they were whisper weak and couldn't seem to hear me at all. I only
worked one. Thanks to everyone for participating and all the contacts. Next year
I hope to be back up north.
