Comments:
Overall was a great contest. Too bad it was Valentine's day weekend. Because
of important things, I ended up taking my break at the worst possible time, from
8:00pm till about 5:00am Saturday night/Sunday morning. This no doubt cost me
very valuable Q's on 40 and 80 that night. Those points are worth their weight
in gold, but its a bit more important to keep the YL happy! First the Sugar
Bowl intercepts Roundup and then WPX on Valentines day. Cant wait until next
year, maybe it'll be a bit better.
Plenty of 5 banders, too many to recall. Good openings on all bands, and as
usual, 15 carried the day. 40 on Friday night was a hoot, and looks as though
having monobanders on 40 in multiple directions is going to be a big advantage
as we slip further down the cycle.
Once again, I was haunted by a Yaesu FT-990. For some reason, when Writelog
polls the CAT interface, the RX is completely blanked. I figured I could still
use it for PTT, but since the Freq. readout didnt work correctly, I'd have to
manually select the band each time I changed the second radio. Well, changing
that in the Frequency selection box also disables the CAT interface completely.
So 30 minutes in, I had to emergency wire a PTT off of the same comport as the
FSK feed. Thank goodness for the great idea from the picture on Don's site.
That 3 way box with FSK, PTT and CW on one port works great.
Hopefully next year, there wont be holidays, I'll have both FT-1000's back, and
I wont have any power failures.
Rigs: FT-990 and FT-1000D
Antennas: Stacked Mono's on 10, 15, 20, NE, NW, and SW.
3 Ele mono's NW and NE on 40
3 Element veritcal arrays NE and NW on 80.
Software: Writelog and MMTTY
Thanks to Pat for the use of "The Camp" again, and for keeping food and drink at
hand.
