Comments:
Thanks to AG4M for the use of his antenna tuner. I have made over 3500 QSOs
with it on 160 in the last 3 years (I guess I need to return it soon). I
promise to put the W8JI key click mod in by the 04 ARRL Test... I can't say
enough about the FT-1000 Mk V with the IPO on. What a pleasure to operate
compared to the old TS-940. Antenna is a single 66 ft. vertical left from the
80m 4SQR. I use an old Hy-Tower Air Dux base loaded, but it seems to work.
Probably 60% of the 38,000 ft of radials are still connected.
I listened to W4AN run ghost European stations on 1823, I can't even hear a
whisper and I am only 175 miles away...
I don't know what to think of all the crazy operators who gave me many contacts
2 hours after east coast sunrise and between 3 and 5 pm on Sunday afternoon...
Good start to the test with 124 Q's in the opening hour. I slept thru the
opening to Eu Saturday night. Getting to be a real Gray Beard. Never had any
man made noise or static crashes. K6SE, a boyhood friend of 40 years was the
consistent winner on signal strength, tied with N6RO from his sunset till well
past mine...
