Comments:
My first SOAB 48 h effort. Well, this is not sth I would like to do more than 2
times a year:) Actually it came out to be 65 hours almost without sleep as time
for preparations was too short to allow more than an hour of sleep before
contest. It was suprisingly easy to stay up second morning but 3rd was too much.
Last 3-4 hours of contest were very funny. I saw amplifiers moving around in the
room with different animals and I was constantly mad about the 2nd Radio guy who
was not doing anything while he was supposed to S&P:) Tryed to convince myself
that I was alone in the shack but I did not believe it:) Very funny.
I am not happy at all with the QSO count. As I am a big multiplier freak I spent
up to 10 hours without CQ trying to sweep the band with main Radio for
multipliers. I could not do it efficiently with 2nd Radio as I could not divide
my main antenna for upper bands - tribander stack. I am quite happy with final
multpilier count. Thanks for multiband QSYs to SU9NC, YI/N2OBM, PJ7/AH8DX,
NH2PW, 4K9W, 3XY1L, 3W22S, especially for 80m QSYs to 5U7JB, KH0AA, A45WD,
BY6HY, RW0CF (19z) and many others. Worked YI5AA on 160m! Is this guy real???
10m was complete miracle of course. Sunday 13-14 UTC produced rates of 350-400
to States, great!! I have not yet had 8 QSOs per minute before.
Very poor propagation to States on 40m and 20m. 15m came out to be my best band
and 160 the worst, still need better antenna there and more beverages.
SO2R system with TR and ZS4TX's SCKII worked great. Used messages a lot, even
for 5915 and thanks. I learned that conserving energy is really important if you
want to last for 48 hours. I spoke too loud in the beginning and yelled too
much, that resulted in fatique and severe headache by the end.
Although used main radio too much for S&P still made over 300 QSOs on 2nd Radio
between CQs on main radio.
Lost 1 hour due to amplifier problems 1 hour at the end as fell asleep. 500 more
QSOs and 6m points would have been very realistic with better operating but not
more.
