This was the first chance to see how my new QTH plays....not bad at all. I
seemed to "own" the path to South America, which was cool considering the
minimal hardware. The vertical played extremely well, and I actually felt
"loud" at times.
Unfortunately, I suffer quite a bit of line noise, and it averaged S3-S5
everywhere. It's been pretty dry down here, and without rain, salt builds up on
the power pole insulaters, causing them to arc. As a result, I S&Ped the entire
weekend, not wanting to be an alligator.
It seemed like conditions were very good, not counting the blackout Sunday.
I didn't hear much deep Asian stuff - maybe due to the downslide of the cycle
but more likely the lack of a substantial signal-sucking antenna.
I had fun loading up the R-7 vertical (40-10m) on 75 and working several
Carribean multipliers, including C5Z who wins "best ears" award for hearing
me.
