Comments:
Started as a mostly goofing around effort, but decided at last minute to give
local 10m specialist W5PR (NN5P) a chase. Condx were really punk, which meant
that the nagging mid-S-meter line noise that came and went all weekend was a
limiting factor for the backscatter Q's. Gotta try again with the local line
utility co.
Chuck jumped out ahead of me while I was fixing a failed tee-connector on a test
antenna for JA (another long sob story on the tower), and then pulled way ahead
while I was remembering how to operate 'phone. Spent the rest of the weekend
closing, dropping back, closing again. Never did catch him. He knows the band
well and is a better 'phone op and it shows!
Decided that if DX was MIA, I'd better work a lot of 10m phone-only USA
stations. Got a lot of Number 1 QSO's, many of whom came by later as dupes.
Started out turning them away, then realized that they may not have logged the
first one, so just worked them all straight up (unless they called a third or
fourth time). Result: over 60 dupes in the log.
Only a few Europe, and the really good JA condx were Sunday afternoon when most
of them are at work on their Monday. Data below:

Not a huge country total from this one, but some cool calls like 9S1 and S9. No
long path of any kind.

Rate was never wild, but the first few minutes on the air were really fun. Then
there would be bursts of a whole lotta Q's in just a few minutes, followed by
long periods with no answers.

All in all, even though it was a 'phone contest, it was a pretty good way to
spend a weekend. Hope condx improve by the CW event, but the 27-day rotation is
likely to bring the crud around again close to that weekend.
