Well, it sure is easy to tell the difference between this test and 2 years ago
which is when I last put in a serious effort and even more dramatic over 3 years
ago! There was hardly any openings to Europe from the Black Hole of the
midwest. I think I can count the number of German stations worked on 2 hands.
In the past I've worked hundreds! Worked more Japanese on Sunday afternoon than
any other European countries. It was nice to see the good participation from
South America this year. Worked a good number of Brazil and Argentine stations.
The best was working a 9A on 80m with my crummy dipole, and having several
African stations call me when I was CQing on 15 and 20. All in all, I couldn't
get totally motivated to do this test this year, but I forced myself. Only
worked 23.5 hours of the test. Had a major personal committment Sunday morning.
This is my last contest with my venerable TA-33. It's coming down next weekend
to be replaced with a new Bencher Skyhawk. I'm told I'll be amazed at the
difference! I could have used it this weekend.
