N0AX - Had to use "Honest" Abe for the name here - distant relation,
actually.
Thanks to all that turned up and slugged it out to the very end

this one turned into a scavenger hunt! Also, holding the
contest in
the middle of JARTS RTTY and the fall QRP ARCI QSO Party made
for
some interesting QSOs, especially on 40-meters.

I tend to agree that the honor sprint could be 2 hours in
length,
given the turnout. If so, the bands should be higher and the
time
earlier, so that the western guys aren't trying to work 80 in
daylight and the eastern guys aren't trying to work 20 in the
dark.
N6TR seemed to get into the spirit the most and was busily
vacumning
up QRPers, DLs in the WAG (waggers?), innocent passers-by, and
the
like. I don't think he was able to work many JARTS RTTY'ers,
though.
I, myself, got kinda distracted (making stew at the same time)
and
wandered off to work TJ, FJ, and 4K on various other bands. It
did
not occur to me to get into the scavenging aspect and I wish I'd
thought of it!
I knew it was going to be a light turnout when 15 minutes in
everyone
I'd worked was lined up like fishermen on opening day CQ-ing
away on
20-meters! I suspect that we'll get more and more turnout as
time
goes by.
Looks like the Rush Drake Orchestra team obliterated all
competition,
mainly by absorbing at least half the active participants. Ward,

AA3B - Where was everyone? GL this contest season! 73 Bud AA3B
AD6DO - Only operated from 0021-0058z. Not very many participants so
my interest faded very quickly. 73, Daniel Craig, AD6DO
N7WA - Got up early to do the AP Sprint (5:30AM local), worked
outside all day in the cold rain, and started 1/2 hour
late. After 2 hours, I had enough and sacked out on the
couch to watch reruns of MASH. Suggestions for future Honor
Sprints:
a) Maybe just change it to the Honor Almost Internet Sprint; b)
Drop
to two hours; c) Participation seemed light, maybe allow dupe
contacts
to keep rates up. If participation grows, you could drop the
dupes.

N0SS - For cryin' out loud...! Where was everyone??? That was WORK!
The score I made was SIGNIFICANTLY better than I deserved! Made
only possible by the lack of other operators. Wound up scraping
for
Q's... working the guys in the QRP contest (thanks to all of
them who
did work me.. they were quite courteous with exchanging data for
BOTH

K7SS - Imagine my horror, when taking a break after the Padres sad
loss to those damn yankees, I read on 3830 reflector digest, which
comes in every night at around 8:45, that the HONOR SPRINT was
on
today! Not only TODAY, but NOW, and 10 minutes til the end!!!
Went immediately to 80, worked W7WA, KK7GW and N7LOX followed by
K7RAT for a MULT!! FLASH changed bands to 40 (sounds like a
Gotham
Adv) and proceeded to jump bands with WA GW and the RAT for the
rest
of the contest and even work a ZERO at the end... 10 minutes on
time. geeeeesh..
Noteable needless info: First HF contest ever without a
CALIFORNIA
QSO. 73 all and hope Langston can sleep tonight..
K0RX - (@ K0A) I had reserved this callsign for the Scouting Jamboree
on the
Air. Lots of kids over to the shack all afternoon. Lots of ??
about
the callsign during the sprint - evidently people still aren't
used
to working the 1x1's. I tried to post an announcement of our
JOTA
operation on the cq-contest reflector, but that didn't make it
past
the censors. Maybe it would have helped in callsign
recognition.
Anyway, thanks to all who participated! Lets do it again, but 2
hrs
is probably as long as it needs to be.
K1HT - I got off to a flying start, but then had long stretches without
finding anyone to work. This one hasn't yet reached critical
mass.
At least conditions were good. I worked several newcomers; I
hope
they'll turn out for the "big Sprint" in February.
K1KY - Long day of hamming activities, started out in Gray, TN at
hamfest
with TCG meeting. 4.5 hour return trip, I stopped by the
contest
site to offload my goodies and do a little house cleaning.
Couldn't
get anyone interested in signing up for a team, so I decided to
operate a while and at least activate that rare TN multiplier.
Not a
lot of activity, but was fun while it lasted. Of course, I have
a
"Golden Log"! Let's make this a 1-2 hour thing next time!

K6AW - This was hard work. Thanks for the Q's.
K7RAT - More like a mud wrestle, or a scavenger hunt then a sprint. Was
great
finding W9WI with a European during the last 15 minutes on 20
meters,
and then working him on 3 bands.
(Addenda) - Well, Chuck raises a good point about the QSY stuff.
Technically, I would say it is "illegal" for the CQing station
to
suggest a QSY after the QSO. It is probably less clear that the
answering station would be wrong if he suggested it however. In
order to maintain the high honor of this event, here is a
revised
score sheet with all of my QSYed QSOs removed. Since I don't
know
which ones were which (if I CQed or not), I just removed them
all.
I leave it to the contest sponsors to decide which one to use.
K9NX - Was still fun even though there couldn't have been 40 stations
total
in the contest. We gotta do a better job of "advertising" next
time,
or make these "honor" sprints shorter (2 hours?). Was real
confusing
with so many contests going at once. On 40 had a QRP test, some
kinda
Euro test and JARTS RTTY, plus the Sprinters all vying for the
same
20KHZ of 40M...what a mess.
KK7GW - Looks like I might be 2nd or 3rd low power behind Tree and maybe
a
couple others. K0RF was past 100, but I'm pretty sure he was
running a KW.
W4OC - Activity not great. After 0311 couldn't find anyone to work. Ran
single radio - 100 watts and inverted vee's at 45 feet on all
bands.
W7GG - Pretty puny turn-out for this one. World Series or what? Was
ready
to bag it after two hours but hung in another 45 mins. Was
pleased
to see that my NR's were pretty close to the leaders until I
folded.
Felt like I could compete for a change but lack of activity got
the
best of me.
WD4AHZ- Started off pretty good, but once you worked everyone, it sure
slowed down! Ccalled it quits after 3 hours, Thanks to Ward,
N0AX
for getting it organized. Well, as I'm sure everyone else is
going
to say, this went slooooowly. I got off to a fast start, picking
up
17 Q's in the first 17 minutes. I finally felt in the swing of
the
sprint style system. Then, I couldn't find any new
stations...and
finally after #25 at 0047z, I went down to 40. Of course,
moving to
a new band, the rate jumped again, until I'd worked all the
hardcore
guys that could hear me.
Then, I come across K7RAT working one of the QRP ARCI guys. As
long
as you get the exchange, it counts, and boy did those QRP'ers
help.
Of course, I had to note the full exchange they sent, because
I'm
doing a semi-effort in that contest too. It's a good warm-up
for SS,
I had nice little 25-30/hr runs on 20 in the morning. Finally
checked
80 at 0200z, and worked a couple here and there. I took a bit
of a
break to eat and check the World Series around 0245z, got
upstairs
just in time to see Tino Martinez hit a grand slam to put the
Yankees on top for good.
However, I kept at this contest, and I ended it like I did the
start,
racking off 5 Q's in the last 6 minutes, thanks to K7SS and W7WA
moving up and down with me. Stations worked on all 3 bands:
N0AX,
K6AW, W7GG, K7RAT, N7WA, KI7Y, K7SS, and W7WA. My pet
peeve...having
the RTTY guys maliciously interfere with me...I called NA KK7GW,
and
boom RTTY starts. It stops, I call, it starts as soon as I
finish
the CQ. 40 was packed with SSB below 7040 and RTTY from 7030 up
through 7050. This was a different sort of a contest.
