I don't think I will ever learn how to be a phone contester. The different
dialects along with splatter, QRM, and static crashes at just the wrong
time really combine to frustrate me when copying weak signals. But, being a
DXer at heart, using packet spots makes it not that bad for just one
weekend, once in a while.
A bad weather front passing on Saturday through made it very tough to hear
stations on the low bands for the entire weekend. During the daylight
hours, the high bands were very, very crowded and both 20 and 15 meters
sounded like there was at least one station CQing every 1.5 KHz. It was
almost impossible to find a clear spot, much less to run stations from
Texas. Those that could and did from this part of the country certainly
have my respect.
Congrats to all the high scorers.
