Sometimes, things just don't seem to work out like you plan.
Next time, I promise I will NOT leave the house the afternoon of
Sprint. I will also make sure I know what time it starts (I WAS
better this time; I did know what time it started). I made the
mistake of meeting some friends and the freeway and carpooling
down to Galveston to visit Moody Gardens. I commented about the
fact I needed to be back at 5:00pm and all assured me we would be
back before then....WRONG! Geez.....
So...I get home at 6:35 (That's 0035Z--35 minutes AFTER Sprint
began!), decide to forgo installing the a,b,ab switch for the two
beams and just press ahead to turn everything on and get going.
Computer doesn't control/key the radio....hmmm....
Change kg5u.cfg a bit and that's taken care of.
First QSO at 0049z. Then, I find that I'm out of sync with my
logging software and can't get the rhythm/sequence down. Lots of
mistakes and backpedaling. I felt the pressure of the late start
through the contest. In spite of that, I still managed
somewhere, somehow to allow 5 continuous minutes without a QSO to
happen! What the heck do I do during that time???!! How does that
happen? Do I nod off for a short time?
In all, and considering I was QRP, I had a great time.
I was amazed Dave/G4BUO heard me well enough to complete the QSO
on 40m.
