Comments: I wanted to demonstrate contesting to some of the
other members of the NDSU Amateur Radio Society today.
Jason, KB0VSZ, showed up and handled most of the early
Search and Pounce duties. After a couple of hours he
went to eat at McDonalds so I tried to run for a little bit.
There must not have been much ND on the air today because I
had a pileup with about 5 stations calling me for a while. The
last 10 meter showed approximately 230 for a little bit, which is
by far my best ever. By the time Jason got back from
McDonalds, I
had made 100 Q's. Things went downhill after I QSYed to 40
meters,
though.
I could never get a rate going and I don't like SSB enough
to S&P all night through all of the non-contest stations, much
less put
up with the characters found on 80 M. I was seriously expecting
to make
QSO #500 right after QSO #459. When I realized that this was
not going
to happen, I knew that I had to pull the plug. Anyway, our
antenna for
the low bands is not very good. We have 500' of 3/4" hard-line
which
connects to 450 ohm ladderline which connects to the dipole on
the roof
of the EE building. There is no coupling device between the
ladder line and
the coax which creates a lot of loss. I really need to fix this
before
the Sprint. Also, I should've used a tape recorder during this
one
so I
could review how unintelligle it is when I say Pat in North
Dakota.
I would
guess that 90% of the time that my name was miscopied, it was
miscopied at
either Ted or Ed. I don't understand this. Well, to anyone that
read all
of this, thanks and
73 DE Pat KB0O
