CONGRATULATIONS!!! The contest committee picked the perfect night for the
2nd running of the Stew Perry Distance Challenge contest.
The conditions from southwest New Mexico (3 miles from AZ and 80 miles
north of XE land) were the best I have ever experienced on Top Band. There
was NO QRN!!
Absolutely outstanding reception as signals could be copied to the noise
floor of the receiver (RF gain wide open and AF gain to 3/4 full).
I was able to work every station I called with the exception of
ON7TK. Only two Qs were incomplete with grid square missing. The most
difficult contact was WP4/WB9Z. We tried it once, no go; and then barely
made it later on.
Highlights: Being called by G3, G4, GW3, OH8, OZ3, & VY1.
