TOM HORTON K5IID ZONE 5 ...WEST VIRGINIA
Well, the bands are coming back , but they aren't quite there yet.
10 meters was a plesant surprise, with loads of South Americans and
quite a few Africans but the few Europeans that I heard just could not
hear me.
Murphy camped out here this weekend....was looking forwad to the first
real effort with the new 1000MP and the rebuilt Quad. However, the rig
acted up and the 15 meter Quad had absolutely no gain or front to back.
Had to put a fan on the rig to keep it working and am rebuilding the quad
now for this next weekend.
I've got to find a better place for antennas...
My lot here in town is 50 feet wide and about 60 feet deep. Makes the low
bands tough! There are so many wires running around out back, a bird would
not dare to try to fly through.
Won't be here for phone ss or cqwwcw...will be back overseas at work.....
But I get back 40 minutes before the 10 meter contest starts...
Had fun, have had more fun, and hopefully will have more fun again.
73, Tom
