K3WW, Single Op Power >100 most of the time, <1500 all the time.

QSOS 325 POINTS 1,103

BEST QSO 4X4NJ.

Participation seemed modest, no packet pileups to fill up the pages.
Predicted winner: GM3POI.

Im suffering from a pretty bad cold, and rather contested out,
but curiosity got the better of me. My plan was to start around
5pm take off an hour during the night and catch any long haul sunrise
opening, and be done by 8AM local time. While setting up at 4 local
time, I heard GM3POI roaring in. I jumped right in and worked him
easily. before 5 I also worked 4X4NJ. I heard him on and off for
an hour or more, with few takers. GM3POI seemed to be S9 from
when I turned on the radio til midnight local, when I turned things
off. I got up and worked a few more at sunrise. 9hr 35 min "official" time.

Not having packet, and having a very quiet band, with no QRM around
my CQ frequency, let me try something that I usually dont bother with.
I used the DUAL watch mode and tuned the 2nd VFO on my 781 while
listening to my CQ frequency. I kept sweeping, mostly the "window"
area, and the rest of the center of the band. GM3POI was always
there, I grabbed a handful of other DX stations and a few W's
as well. A second receiver would make sense if there were much QRM
around the run frequency, but the band was much quieter than normal
here. Only worked 25 DX stations, including OX, EA8, 4X and the
rest in Europe. 20 8 pointers from out West were worked. The band
was still open, but elected to get some sleep around 0500 UTC

It will be interesting to see how the scores work out, I also
kept thinking how quickly that 4 X mult for QRP would add up...
those easy 3 point QSOS would be equal to working an European, without
having to strain to copy the Grid Square (for the QRP guy anyhow)..
I hope someone went at it hard that way, just to let us see if
the right factor was permitted.
