Here is the vital info for CQWW CW 96. Congrats to all the stations in the
Multi/Multi
category. There were lots of great scores and it makes us work even harder
to try and
become more competative. Biggest suprise of the weekend? SF=104! Even
though its
the current cycles last gasp, I'm praying it was actually the first real
signs of life
of the new cycle. Its the holidays, maybe Santa's been listening.
It was, as expected, a great time. WW brings out an amazing variety of DX
to work..... or
try to work as the case may be. Brief Band by band summary at the end.

160m: Band was quite good to Europe, but disappointing to Asia/Pacific.
Worked lots of interesting stuff on the band. Nice to work so many DL's
and G's.
80m: One of our best CW efforts to date on this band. We are very happy with
the way things are working. Found the 3' tip of one of the 4 square verticals
was missing the weekend before WW. Replaced on Friday. I'm sure that tip
made a
difference for us. :-)
40m: Had some problems on this band as the rotor for the 190' 4 el broke Friday
night. Tim climbed the tower on Saturday and moved the antenna to a fixed EU
position. It stayed there the rest of the weekend. The main radio 781 also
lost its mind and had to be replaced on Friday night as well. In spite of these
problems, 40m was a great mult band for us. Missed the VU for the 40th
zone, but
at least zone 12 was available this time. We only had 4 hours per day that
this band
did not make Q's.
20m: Our bread and butter band. Our usual outstanding second 20m
op(N8SM(WD8IXE)) was
out of the country so we had to try and find someone to replace him (an
impossible task).
Jim, KB3AFT was able to come over from Penn State and do a great job filling
in.
Jim is 18 years old. I can't remember last week let alone when I was 18!
It was a great
site to see someone a lot younger than I am excited about contesting. First
24 hours went
very well and we had a very nice Asian opening on Sunday afternoon.
15m: Well, it certainly was more interesting than WW SSB. Saturday seemed
quite a bit better
to me compared to Sunday. Had some pretty good rate on Saturday. Had a
very interesting late
Asian opening Saturday evening. JA's were coming in direct and was able to
work a UA0 at that
time as well. Sunday the band opened early to SE EU. Kind of a pre EU
opening. Worked a T9
and 9H at that point. The band then closed back up and opened more
normally. Was nice to work
YB1AQS Sunday morning. Thanks!! The JA's on Sunday were very loud, S9+,
but there were only
a small number of stations to work.
10m: A tough band! As you can see above, we worked no Europe on 10. We
were however suprised
to work HZ1HZ! That was great. Worked several ZL's, but couldn't get a VK.
Maybe next time.
This is the one band that we were able to keep pace with everyone on.
All in all a great weekend. Personally, I can't wait for the sunspots to
return. 10 and 15 will
be big time Q bands once again.
We'll see ya all in ARRL DX. 73
