MURPHY CAME TO VISIT
We lost the balun on the 20 meter beam just before the contest
started, switched the rhombic and vee beam from 80 to 20 and
put up a sloper for 80. Half of our operators spent all day
Saturday lowering the 20 meter tower, making a coaxial balun
and repairing the 20 meter beam. When 20 meters would key, rf
from the open wire rhombic feeders would hang up the computers
and cause lots of havoc! Finally with 24 hours remaining, we were
back in business on both 20 and 80 meters. We thought Murphy was
gone until the packet cluster started disconnecting every 10 to
15 minutes. We did have a great European opening from 1000 zulu
to 1200 zulu on 20 meters Saturday night. All in all we had a
great time in spite of Murphy's presence.
