soap: How can someone be in a contest for 24 hours and not work N5RZ? I
managed this feat. I did work all the TR callsigns tho- must be the most
popular vanity call going.
My excuse for such a poor showing: thunder storm went thru in 2nd hour of
contest, the most productive time- lightening flashes and all. Ended up
taking a break at 23:30 and then when I got back on static was horrendous.
Did work KL7 at 21:26 and VE8EV at 22:44 Saturday so was feeling pretty
good until t-storm hit. Spent all Sat. evening trying to catch up. Was
not able to generate any good rates again until Sunday afternoon after
church-time.
I went to bed shortly after 08:00 still needing KP4, VE1, and Pac for the
sweep. Got back on around 12:00 and had slow going on 80 and 40. Did have
KH6FKG answer my CQ at 13:29 on 40 meters, well after my sunrise. Found a
big pileup on VY2LI on 20 and couldn't get thru so I went s & p around
the band and kept coming back until I finally got him around 15:45. That
left PR only for sweep. Spent most of Sun. morning and early afternoon
CQing on 20 with antenna pointed east hoping for paydirt. I worked all
the stations currently licensed in Virginia, until finally, at 21:41,
KP4BZ called- he gave me #137A. With the sweep I could finally work on
rate which materialized on 40 after I switched back there at 21:50.
Did not break 1000 Q's until 00:41. I just never could catch back up.
Well, someone told me this is fun, so it must be. I'm just not sure I'll
live long enough to get the hang of ssb.
Will look for everyone on CW in CQWW. Hopefully we will multi-op from big
station for that one.
