What can I say? Most of the accolades praising CWSS have already been sung, so
I won't repeat them here, but will add "Me Too!". I *love* this contest, it is
my favorite, bar none. Bob's (KS9W) station continues to amaze me. It is very
effective for a 60' x 100' (or something like that) suburban lot. Results are
about the same as last year's, which proves that last year's effort wasn't a
fluke!
40 went LONG early Saturday night, and 20 went kaput. Strange hearing EU as
loud or louder than some stateside. We had some local noise (S5 to S6) on 80m
the first night, which really hurt us. We knocked off early Sunday down about
100 q's compared to last year, and needing 3 sections for a sweep.
Ended up taking 5.5 hours off time. Thought that we screwed up and would never
catch up, but Sunday morning rates were good. I don't think that taking such a
big chunk of off time hurt us, as 40 was way too long, and tough to get things
going on 80. Turned out ok for us, I think. 40 much better Sunday. In fact,
40 never closed for us, there were always q's to be had on this band.
Kudo's to Bill, AA9LX, who kindly dropped off his 'MP and AL1200 before the
contest, and then would drop by just when Bob or I needed a break! Bill doesn't
realize it yet, but he is developing into a contester despite claiming to be
"only a dx'er".
Hopefully, this is the last contest that KD5PJ callsign is listed in the
operator list. Definately not the last contest that I'll multiop in!!
73 to all, and thanks for the q's and mults! Especially Wayne, N7NG, who
allowed all of us to breathe a bit easier Sunday afternoon when we finally got
the sweep!
