Thank you for your email, information and the great question. I realize that I
should have been more clear in my reporting of the “symptoms”.
There is a tiny bit of noise and I am not receiving any stations. Even the
spurs are barely audible. But the radio audio is not completely “dead”.
I will try connecting the antenna to the separate RX antenna port. I remember
doing that once with an audio problem on the other radio – I had forgotten that
diagnostic test. Thank you for mentioning it! I will check and let you know
what I find.

When you say "NO audio" does this mean that the
rig is totally muted or does it mean that the
radios internal noise is present but you are not receiving any stations?
Try connecting the antenna to the separate RX
antenna port and to see of the radio will
receive. There are components in line with the
ordinary antenna connector that will protect the
input of the RX, and they are known to blow up if
there is too much RF or some sort of surge on the
input. These components are bypassed when an
antenna is connected to the RX in and can fail in
an open- or shortcircuit state which might affect the TX side of things.
In my case it was a surge from the
amplifier while I was in a contest on 160m that
caused my problems. I did not realize it until I
went to another band and the RX was dead as I was
not using the RX In for receive on this band.
Took me a while to figure out what was going
on. Yaesu in the UK had spare parts so I could repair the radio.
This may not be the same problem as you have, but
it might help you in localizing the problem area.
