I find I am able to key the transmitter of my FT-920 on CW by simply 
plugging a hand key into the rear key jack. It is not necessary to press 
the VOX button (activate it) to do so. Is there some menu setting that I 
have inadvertently set incorrectly that allows this to happen?

The paddle/key switch in back is set to key. The "Spot" setting is "off."
