First, go to All Control Panel Items in Windows if you are using Windows PC,
go to Sound and check what you have 'activated' devices in both Playback and
Recording. Even the application will select the devices automatically (for
WL, Setup -> Writelog Options -> Sound board options -> Choose Device(s)),
set both TS-890's USB audio devices in Sound to 'Set Default'. Most likely
2 TS-890 Recording devices are detected and make sure to pick Main RX audio
side.
For the sideband use, WL does not need any 'Recording' device (need only in
the digital mode for RttyRite and DigiRite), you can disable this
'Recording' device at all. See the audio level bar in the Sound - Recording
screen, if you have any input audio (the tone you described), you see in the
level bar at right.
You can also hear the tone by using 'Listen' function in 'Recording' device.
Of course, if you want the audio to come out from PC speaker, pick your PC
speaker device in 'Playback'.
Hope you can find what's going on in your setup. 73 de Jon NN5T

Subject: [WriteLog] More on the Interfering Tone
Somehow writelog is turning on the rig's sidetone, and it is then running
constantly.
I am running Upper Sideband today, and there should be no sidetone anyway.
What is the cure? Is there a setting to change?
