Check out
http://www.rttycontesting.com/usb.htm
It may be instructive, or more confusing.
There is also the MicroHam interface, which seems to be a great option
for the new USB laden world. See
http://www.rttycontesting.com/microham/mk.htm for some details.

Subject: [WriteLog] Serial Port Addition/FSK
Like most everyone else with a laptop, I could use more serial ports.
I
was wondering two things:
1st. I remember reading that running FSK in WL with serial adapters
required the adapter to be capable of running 5-bit code...... Can
someone explain what this is in layman's terms? If an adapter
handles 5
-bit code, would it specifically say 5-bit code, or would a rating
above/below 5 bit indicate that? I read about the card on the Quatech
site via Google, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
Has anyone heard of/used a Quatech QSP-100 PCMCIA Card? Have the
ability to buy one, but if I can't do FSK with it in WL, I won't
bother.
Okay, I was wrong..... Guess I was wondering three things.
Thanks in advance, Happy Holidays, and 73,
Zig - KM9M

Hi all,
From what I have seen posted ont he 3830 reflector, and also on
DJ3NG's
website, many folk have not read the rules of the OK contest correctly!
Before you submit your log, please check your calculation.
The correct way to do it is:
POINTS times (DXCC plus OK).
For example: 455 QSO points, 88 DXCC entities, and 35 OK stations
worked.
Claimed score is 455 X (88 + 35), which = 55965.
Under the old system, the score would have been 455 X 88 X 35 =
1401400.
73 all, and see you in the SARTG HNY contest!

Although I choose not to participate, I did see the pre-contest post
regarding the rule change. I fail to see why contest sponsors choose to
change their rules, especially if/when the rule is changed without
sufficient time for the software authors to prepare their software
update?
Participation depends on the participants having current and correct
software?

Chuck,
I have been using the MicroKeyer with WL for some time. There are many
features to learn, but I continue to be very impressed. WL also
supports WinKey directly as of 10.51. Thanks Wayne!
Also, I must say that the developer of MicroKeyer, Jozef OM7ZZ,
provides
absolutely incredible support. He is quite helpful and very responsive
to questions. Features are being added to the software/firmware on a
regular basis.
In short, I continue to be very pleased with the unit. No problems at
all during CQ WW SSB or CW.
GL es Happy Holidays,
Bob

Hi all,
since 2004 there is a new scoring in OK-DX RTTY contest. Many stations
claiming wrong (old) score in 3830 and rtty-contest-scene.com.
old scoring: Pts * DXCC * OK
new scoring: Pts * (DXCC + OK)
example: (score DC3HB)
QSO: 343, Pts: 882, DXCC: 102, OK: 51
old: 882 * 102 * 51 = 4.588.164
new: 882 * (102 + 51) = 882 * 153 = 134.946
WL compute the old score!!!! (I use version 10.48F). Is the OK-RTTY
module from WL or 3rd party?
I hope, the author of the module correct this for the contest 2005.

Wonder if anyone has gotten an early Sound Blaster card (16, 16 PCI,
etc) to work properly for SO2R? I would appreciate a private email if
you have. Mine, and Creative Labs agrees with this, basically ignores
the left/right balance slider for microphone input and puts the mic
input on both left and right outputs all the time.
