Hello everyone. I am having a problem with using Writelog on CW with my
FT-920. I want to use the CW keyboard and message functions with my FT-920.
I have built a cable that contains the interface circuitry for PTT and CW
from the LPT port (two optocouplers with PTT from pin 16, CW from pin 17 and
pins 18 through 25 for ground). I am using a stereo phone plug inserted
into the CW jack on the rear of the FT-920. The tip is CW and the ring is
PTT. The paddle/key switch on the back of the FT-920 is set to key. Port
setup in writelog is CW on LPT1 and PC generates CW. For CW PTT I have
selected LPT Pin 16 and a 100 mSec delay. I am using Writelog version
10.26B on a laptop running Windows ME. OK, here is what happens. When I
use the CW keyboard or activate one of the CW messages via a function key,
the PTT activates (transmit indicator on FT-920 comes on) for a short period
of time (100 mSec?). When the CW starts the PTT immediately unkeys putting
the FT-920 back into receive. I know the CW is working since I can still
hear the side tone. No RF gets transmitted though because the PTT unkeying
has put the FT-920 back in receive mode. I have looked at this for two days
and am at a loss. I have checked the FT-920 setup and my interface cable 10
times even using a DVM and O-Scope to look at the various voltages. All
checks out all the way back to pins 16 and 17 on the LPT port. My only
conclusion at this point is that there is either something wrong with the
LPT port on the laptop or Writelog. I know other guys are doing this sort
of thing with other rigs and I am very frustrated with this at the moment.
Anyone out there know what the problem is? Thanks.
