Hi Guys,
It's been almost a year and I've been reluctant to share this for
fear of getting heat for potential safety issues but this video is very
cool so sharing anyway. It is a used commercial tower and is a full size
4 element 40 meter M2 beam with the boom at about 125 feet. The owner
over rotated the beam and ripped the coax in half. The correct fix
required replacing the rotor loop from the hardline to the balun.
Problem is the balun is located about 7 feet out on the boom. So other
than an expensive crane and bucket, I'm sure it's been done before But I
thought of this solution and it worked out well. The plank is two pieces
of 2" x 8" screwed together and bolted to the tower and also tied with
rope to the tower at the back end. It had a little flex to it but felt
fine.
But the main point of sharing this is to show off the great video. My
friend that was my ground crew, brought his DJI drone to take some video
since he's gotten pretty good at flying these things. It was pretty
windy that day but I was amazed at how stable the drone appears to be.
He quickly put this video together along with a piano score. I think it
turned out great and hope you enjoy it as well. The beam now works great
again. The location is in the town of Gridley which is about 70 miles
north of Sacramento in the central valley.
