Just be aware of the T2X rebuilders law.
There are people who in the course of a T2X rebuild have had ball
bearings go everywhere with the great possibiity of some never be found
again.
Then there are those people who have never rebuilt a T2X.
After 28 years though you are probably going to need new bearings at the
least so...

Thanks to all for the info on the T2X ! I am thinking about taking it apart
and cheking it out. If not too bad I will try a rebuild.
I noticed on MFJ's site there is a new improved potentiometer with silver
contacts. Thats nice ! I can order new bearings, etc.
It doesn't sound too intimidating right now, maybe after I open it up I will
change my mind. hihi

These are easy to rebuild yourself. The rebuilders will happily sell you the parts as will MFJ. If the
races in the housing look good, and you’re inclined, go for it. I have two in case one quit and
I’m the 30+ years I’ve had them, I’ve swapped them twice. Both One was due to a dirty
potentiometer, one was due to carelessness on my part (no centering shim).
Respect their limitations and they’ll work for a very long time without trouble.

Bob,
The hi Gain/Telex now MFJ is a reliable rotor it’s flaws are well
documented ( stuck wedge brake full travel ) and the slip off BRAKE botton while
turning at full speed and load.
There a a number of compentent rebuilders out there . it will last you many more
years I am sure …

Subject: [TowerTalk] New Hy Gain T2X ?
I am planning on replacing my 28 year old Hy Gain T2X on one of my towers. It
has finally given up. I have a Force 12 C3 on the mast. 12 foot boom, not
much load to contend with. I was originally thinking of doing a rebuild but
I'm now thinking of getting a new unit. The reviews on EHAM aren't all that
great but I am inclined to take them with a grain of salt. Unless you have the
brake delay it is likely you may release the turn button and engage the brake
too soon and damage the unit. Common issue. Thought I would ask the groups
opinion about a new T2X. Do you know if they have they changed the internals
on the new units to be not as reiable as the older ones ?
Am I safe to get a new T2X now ?
