| Thanks, Jim.  Of all the answers that I received, on and off line, yours was
the most specific and apparently based on first hand knowledge of the
bearing involved.  Your advice also comports with what I found on line about
"how to install an eccentric ring on a bearing."  The ring sure looks round
to me, but it must be just a hair off, and I knew that the "hole" in the
ring wasn't there for cosmetic reasons.  :)  Many respondents said the ring
just sat on the bearing and turned the bearing by weight/pressure/friction -
intuitively that seemed wrong to me.
 
Thanks again.  I will give your advice a try when I can put a mast into the
bearing.
