FWIW ____ There must be copperweld and COPPERWELD - as a kid in about 1953 I
bought a couple 500 foot rolls of #18 "COPPERWELD" at Steinberg Radio in
downtown Cincinnati -- it is now 2013 and I still now have hung up an 80
meter dipole which was fed at various times with 300 ohm twinlead , 450
open wire line , and now coax as an inverted V - its the same 132 feet of
#18 "COPPERWELD . My guess it was WW2 war surplus .
For the old timers - the center insulator is the one from the old Amphenol
300 ohm folded dipole kits !!!! Finally had to glue the strain relief piece
in place- the shoulder wore off.
I have a 30M dipole and a 12M dipole hanging up off my tower now using the
same wire but they are mere children , only maybe 5 -10 years old- 30
whenever WARC started - 12 is only couple years old.
Never had a break. Ohio ,Ill ,Iowa, and now Az since 1970.
And I still have a few hundred feet on the original coil in a box and it
still shiny as new ?????? NOT FOR SALE.
