Hi Kit,
I bought a used Tristao over 20 years ago and it has served me very well.
It didn't come with a thrust bearing but I needed one so before I put it up
I ordered one from U.S. Tower I think. I wouldn't mess around trying to
rebuild an old weathered bearing frankly. Check with U.S. Tower and see if
they have one that would serve your needs in rehabilitating your tower.
U.S. Tower bought out Tristao and their towers are very much like the
Tristao line. Mine is the HDX572.
Good luck building your station!
Regards,

Hello TowerTalk forum:
My name is Kit Crider and while I do not yet have my ticket (will be taking
the test October 16 at MDARC in Lafayette, CA) I am buying pieces of
equipment to get my station set up. Don't worry folks I don't even have my
antenna tower up yet so I'm not
doing anything illegal. One of the items I have purchased is an older
Tristao crank up tower that is in need of some work but the price was right.
One of the most important repair pieces I need are the antenna thrust
bearings, of which there are 2. As near as I can tell the O.D. of each
bearing is 2.25": both bearing "cups" are bent out of shape and I don't want
to heat them up to reshape them until I know what size they should be. Make
sense? Along this same line, does anyone know where I can find replacement
bearings? Are these just sleeve bearings or ???
Unfortunately I can't tell you the model number because all information on
the I.D. plate has been worn off by weathering but the tower itself is four
sections, each is 10' in length. It is of course triangular and measures
15" on each side and is made of steel, not aluminum.
I am told the amateur radio community is very helpful to "newbie's" and I
hope someone out there can lend a hand on this. Any and all information
will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Kit Crider
p.s. - because I don't have my ticket I don't feel comfortable using
73's.something I feel is earned.
