Jeepers, Doug... Do you suppose that a yahoo tooling around the swamp on an
ATV can slow down enough to find birds that might be 4-5 inches long and
weigh 2-3 ounces? Sounds like a great job to have, though !
I agree that on an average day, there may not be any bird strikes... The
disasters happen mostly during migration, at night, to the smaller songbirds
that we all like to hear in the spring...

About 15 years ago I was on the 800' platform of a 1000'+ tower in Corkscrew
Swamp (near Naples, Florida) installing equipment for my previous employer.
The site manager was with me when I spotted a guy on an ATV riding around
the tower. The site manager explained that a condition for getting
authorization for the tower was to pay someone to collect the dead birds
around the tower every day. The site manager said that on an average day, no
birds were found. The worst day was a half-dozen or so...
