Found your reference to Bill's posting in which you describe the process.
N4LI also wrote a similar article (Plumber's Delight Coax Connector) in Ham
Radio magazine, May 1981, about using the copper pipe adapter and the
Amphenol PL-258 (barrel) that uses a retaining ring for the "insides" to
produce a female UHF connector. Found that in my "archives."
All the PL-258's I have do not use a retaining ring. They are probably
force-fit by a machine. Perhaps Amphenol still makes them the old way, so
will have to research that.
