i used pvc EMT. here it's 20-25 cents a ft in 10 ft lengths.  1/2'' is ok for 
rg8x or rg8 WITHOUT connectors. if you put on pl259s you'll need  3/4'' EMT. 
use general purpose pvc/cpvc cement. that eliminates the purple  stuff[ 
cleaner primer]. took about 4 hrs with xyls help to dig trench, feed coax  and 
glue 
joints for 150' of EMT. a gas sidewalk edger is handy for trenching. i  dug a 
4'' deep  line and then  dug another 2'' away. very easy to go  back with a 
hand trowel es clean the trench out. if you are skilled with the  edger try 
tipping it slightly as you groove. you can make a 'v' trench deep  enough to 
put 
the  EMT 2'' below the surface. you can cut old metal coat  hangers into 6'' 
'u' shapes to hold the EMT in place as the earth settles and  grass fills in 
the 
bare spot.
