Since I recently had a tower loss I thought I'd throw my $0.02 in too. My crankup came down Monday October 27, thankfully right after the CQWW SSB test. Mine failed at the base and I suspect there was a hairline crack in one of the legs by looking the metal the next morning. Since we have been running a farm, many of the "main-line" companies (USAA specifically) did not want to insure my home. I have been with Maine Mutual since we started the farm (and the business) and I have been very happy with their service. I have a replacement value rider on my plan but it specifically states in the contract: "outdoor antennas" are covered at actual cash value at the time of loss but not more than the amount to repair or replace. The sent a local adjuster out to look at the damage and look at the quote I had from a local rigger. We did a bit of negotiation and arrived at a sum that met everyone's needs. I called Maine Mutual after the settlement was paid and the agent was surprised that I was calling to thank the Company for settling my claim. Most of the calls he gets are complaints. The bottom line is to ensure your policy has a replacement rider. Bob, KQ2M, hit the nail on the head that it is a bit more expensive to have the rider but it is well worth the cost when you have a loss. It is also good to know what you are talking about by being prepared with information about your installation, stay non-confrontational and be willing to negotiate. Happy Holidays to all! 73, Craig Clark, K1QX RADIOWARE AND RADIO BOOKSTORE PO BOX 209 RINDGE NH 03461 603 899 6957 WWW.RADIO-WARE.COM _______________________________________________ See: http://www.mscomputer.com for "Self Supporting Towers", "Wireless Weather Stations", and lot's more.
