Esteemed Reflectees,
Recent events in the family have facilitated me to put up a three element
delta loop array for 20-17-15-12. 16 foot boom. 8 foot spacing. It is going
to be only 30 foot off the ground at the bottom of the loops wires.
I ran across an article by W6PU regarding a four element phased quad. He ran
a pair of loops spaced 1/8 wave and fed 135 degrees out of phase. He then
added a parasitic reflector and director. Claims that it performs much
better than the original version of parasitic elements only. Around 5.5 dB
better.
If this is so good why are not others running this set up? I do not have any
modeling software so I cannot do the modeling but is it really 5 dB or
better than a conventionally fed parasitic array??
Is it worth the hassle of setting up the phasing harness, etc.?
I am thinking that I can run a pair of loops with the 1/8 wave spacing and
135 degree phasing no problem. Is it better to run a reflector or director
if I am only going with three elements?
