Gentlemen,
I have the following tower that I would like to get more info on and a
manual, if possible:
Model: TRI-EX THXN471
S/N: 51244
DESC: 4 SECTION, 71 FT MOTORIZED CRANKUP, WITH TRIPOD SUPPORT.
First I should tell you I called Tri-ex and ran into a total dead-end. They
couldn't or wouldn't tell me anything about this tower. I also had a phone
conversation with Frank Clement W6KPC, who told me he thought it would be
rated at 10 sq ft of wind load at 70 MPH in it's fully extended
configuration. It has 3 solid supports that start at the top of the bottom
section and are to be anchored in concrete, like the base. Otherwise it is
self-supporting. I don't know how old it is, but I believe it is at least
30-35 years old.
Does anyone out there have any documentation on this tower?
Some of the things I'd like to know are the requirements for the concrete
for the base and the tripod ends. Frank tells me the volume of concrete for
the tripod ends is much greater than that for the base, but he couldn't give
me any numbers. Also, are there any stress calculations available or
drawings that would allow such. Is anyone currently using one of these?
Looking at the rigging, it appears to have positive pull-down. The tower
also has a work platform mounted at the top of the bottom section. The tower
was not galvanized, just painted.
Any information at all would be most helpful. I have been an observer on
this reflector for quite some time and have gleaned a great deal of useful
info. This is my first posting and I hope someone can help out.
Tks and 73
