Dear Mr. Manufacturer:
With all this talk about attaching PL-259s it makes me wonder: Why do we
have to put up with "UHF" connectors? The only good way to install them is
with a crimping tool, and then all you end up with is a properly installed
third rate connector. Type N or BNC connectors are far superior (and the
Europeans have stuff that's even better). With a little practice you can
install them quicker than soldering on a PL-259 and you have a far superior
connector that can be re-used if necessary. Some of you are starting to
recognize this. N connectors are now working their way down the spectrum on
equipment made by some of the better manufacturers, and with others you can
at least get them as an option, all the way down to HF. Come on
manufacturers, stop treating us like "good buddies" and give us some
professional connectors on our gear.
Sincerely,
JC,k0hps@amsat.org
