Some years ago I recall reading an article -- I think it was in CQ -- about
a prototype 160m vertical that KLM was trying. It was a full-size vertical
using three legs of aluminum tubing in a tripod configuration up about
60-70% of the height, then a single mast from there up. Don't recall hearing
any more about it, so guess they decided not to market it. But I wonder if
anyone has tried homebrewing anything similar. As I recall the base
footprint was fairly small.

I have a lot of the big (4-5 inch diameter) and medium (2-3 inch diameter)
toroids out of old TV sets (from the back of the picture tubes). Has anyone
tried using these to wind Beverage matching transformers? Is there an easy
way to determine the values of the toroid core? I imagine saturation from
transmitter overload wouldn't be a problem with cores this big.
