it is also possible that the regulator is not working and CAUSING the scr to 
trip.

can you measure output voltage? or is zero indicating a shorted output line

is the 20 amp fuse popped? It should be if the scr has fired. If not, then we 
need to look a bit deeper into the schematic.

getting to the zener diode and the scr is a bit tricky.

You'll need to remove some of the wires, mark where they go, take a few digital 
photos if need be, but you can gently remove the entire pcb and the heatsink 
from the chassis.
