The new Alinco is reviewed in June QST. It does not come off
as intuitive. There is no indication of what buttons on the key pad
control which band selection. You HAVE to read the manual!
The lab results show it an entry level radio at best. Only HF coverage,
but you do get general coverage on receiver, but only to 30 MHz. Size
if 10X10X4 and a hefty 9 lbs.
One good idea is a detachable front panel for remote use.
The need to go inside the radio for mic level adjustment is too bad.
They thus made it difficult for digital mode users. There are other trim
pot controls as well, in place of traditional knob pots.
Everyone should be clear that the only thing common between the DX R8T/E
and the Eagle, is they both cover HF. The Eagle has many advanced
receiver specs, and covers 6m as well as HF in a small footprint for a
100 watt radio. You can look at the front panel of the Eagle and know
just about all there is to know to use the radio, which is as it should
be IMHO.
