Pretty easy to do. I would HIGH RECOMMEND you visit the following website
www.aa5au.com/rtty
He does an outstanding job of helping a new person get started using the
MMTTY program. I don't think many will disagree it is one of the best RTTY
programs out there and it is free.
All above said, you didn't mention of how you were going to interface the
computer? When I first started using the Orion with RTTY I used a Rig
Blaster Plus as that has the necessary circuits to use FSK with the Orion
(which I highly recommend). When you go to FSK mode with the Orion, it
sets up the filters correctly for RTTY.
In any case, receive is very easy, just run a cable from the line out
(either the line out RCA plug or pin 4 of th Aux I/O jack on the Orion to
the sound card input.
For AFSK, the eaisest way is to run a cable from the line out on the sound
card to the Aux In pin (pin 7) on the Aux I/O jack. You should, however,
put a 1 to 1 isolation transfomer in the line (Radio Shack sells them).
You cannot, however, use the FSK mode on the Orion and use USB mode. Have
to manually set up the filters.
FSK requires a little more work as you have to have a keying circuit. Easy
to do and AA5AU shows a simple one on his web site. What is nice about the
RigBlaster, it has all that built in and makes an easy way to connect the
radio to the computer.
