As an O2 owner of a few weeks and a couple of contests, look in the manual...
Scott has an excellent chapter for new users...
What I suggest <really old ham used to using real junk> is turn the AGC OFF,
turn the RF gain down, setting depends upon band but 70 is a start, set the
audio at mid scale (headphones) and adjust the RF gain so signals are
comfortable... Leave the Noise Reduction (NR) OFF and tune around a bit...
Then start with NR at 1, and try it, increase the NR in steps of 1... It won't
take but a few minutes for you to decide what you like... And it doesn't
matter what anyone else likes... After you have a feel for it, then play with
the AGC speeds, etc...
Basically, I like for the noise level to be low with the signals rising up out
of near silence as you tune across them... ymmv... For me this works best with
minimal RF Gain, no AGC, and light to moderate NR... Actually I use the RF Gain
as my volume control...
A tip when reading the forums is watch closely which Orion is being discussed
The O1 is different from the OII... And the firmware version... OII Firmware
before 2037j is a different kettle of fish and will not apply directly to you
unless you load the earlier firmware..
Have fun with a great receiver...
