I'm new to SMT and am following the INRAD instructions for improving the SSB
audio response of the OMNI VI+ . If you have done the mod, your probably
can help me. Here are the INRAD instructions:
"Remove capacitors C3 and C29 on the IF/AF Board and replace them with the
capacitors supplied. Capacitors C3 and C29 are each actually two capacitors
in series. Remove only one of each pair and replace with the supplied
parts."
I have removed C29 and under magnification, do not see any sign of two
capacitors in "series". Did the author actually mean "parallel"? Is it
possible that there really are two capacitors in parallel when I removed
C29, but I just cannot see them yet?
Am I interpreting this correctly: C29 is very tiny, but I should be able to
use copper braid to absorb solder on each end, and then separate the
singular unit I removed into two pieces. The author implies that I should
then replace one of the two tiny caps into the SMT mounting area, and add in
parallel, the larger ceramic .01 leaded cap I have ready to mount.
I should then repeat this same process for C3.
It could be that I am completely mis-reading the meaning or the author's
intent. If so, please correct me and guide me in the right direction.
I can assure you, I will never intentionally work with SMT components again.
My eyes are too old and the parts are too small.
Thanks, Peter, Nederland, Colorado
