Greg,
One big difference between using audio filters, as opposed to IF filters for
CW is that the audio filter does not activate the receiver's AGC. So, it's
common to have an interfering signal pass through a wider IF filter, and
"pump" the receiver's AGC, while it is being rejected in the narrower AF
filter's bandpass.
See the dilemma? You can't hear what's doing that dastardly deed to you!
(Some receivers do use use audio-derived AGC, and I like the way they
perform then with narrow AF filters AHEAD of the AGC circuit).
