Hello Maurie.. Quite a few prople have shown that the drift problem with
the Scout is caused by heat making the PTO drift. It moves out of the range
of the microprocessor control and then it 'jumps'. If you mount a small
computer-CPU fan on the back of the Scout heatsink, they are very stable. I
have an Argo-556 (the QRP Scout) and since it doesn't generate any heat, it
doesn't drift (unless there's a breeze blowing through my camper when I'm
portable!). The PTO is stable when the temperature doesn't change.

The Scout manual shows how to add a simple circuit for keying an external
amp. I've added an opto-coupler to my Argo-556 (instead of the transistor
they show) and I use it to key the PTT of my DSP audio filter. It could
also key an amp. Works great.
