As some of you may remember, I've had a source of some 'orrible,
'orrible QRN here at Bedsprings Brigade Manor, which has largely kept
me from contesting for quite a while (you can't work 'em if you can't
hear 'em, right?). Not having the equipment to try and track it down,
I haven't done much about it. This week I decided that since it
sounds like line noise (and since it did get much worse last time I
restrung the wire antenna, which, come to think of it moved it closer
to the power box), I might as well call the local power company and
see if I can get in touch with whatever engineer deals with RFI
problems. I got hold of the dispatcher and told him the situation,
and he said he'd try to track down whoever dealt with that. Got a
call later: he'd found out who the proper engineer is, left my
information with the engineer, and just for completeness, gave me the
phone number for the engineer. At this point, I was just trying to
get in touch.

Well, apparently, he wasn't going to wait to get in touch with me. I
got home tonight, flipped on the radio, and...hello, I can hear real
atmospherics on 20M, instead of constant frying noise. And you can
actually hear a bunch of actual signals. 40M isn't getting S9+20db noise.

I'll probably give the engineer a call and give him my thanks (and try
to find out what had happened), but looks like I might actually be
able to operate around here again.

So, once I get the shack computer back in shape(after a round or two
of 'Musical PC Parts', I've just recently gotten it rebuilt),
Bedsprings Brigade Manor should be back to seeing what kind of
contesting can be done barefoot with strange wire antennas and verticals.
