Creatures of the Radio Realm,
The Boring Amateur Radio Club is excited to announce the 13th
running of
The Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge. This dandy 160M contest runs from 1500Z
Dec. 27 to 1500Z Dec. 28, 2008. You can operate 14 hours during this time
period interpreting and sending CW with the exchange being your 4 character
Maidenhead Grid square location. This allows you and the log checking
apparatus to divine how far away the station you just worked happened to be.
All this adds to your QSO point total which is explained fully at
http://www.jzap.com/k7rat/stew.html Other subtleties pertaining to this
CW TopBand Extravavganza are discussed at the web site which the seasoned
160M Op will take note of and perhaps tattoo parts of the rules on an
extremity or print out or something.
The Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge also provides a venue for the
combatants to sponsor plaques for categories that they feel are important or
unique facets for this TopBand QSO-fest. Stalwart Contesting Legends along
with regular hams will conjure up a category (which passes the Boring
Amateur Radio Club Decency Subcommittee) that needs attention and will send
me an email suggesting the plaque. This is usually followed by a check for
$50 and then your call will be immortalized along with the eventual winner
of the plaque. The 2007 plaques will be retrieved soon from the plaquemaker
and be sent off first class postage to stations around the world.
Already these legendary plaque sponsors have spoken up for this years
edition of this fine contest as noted:
CAll Category
KL7RA Highest # of QSO's
KB7Q Top Score QRP
K1EP Top Score, Low Power using Elecraft K3 radio
TF3KX Aurora Borealis Award (Top score > 60 deg North geomagnetic
latitude QTH)
AE6RF Top Score Low Power in W6
NA0Y Top Score USA
VK6VZ Top Score with antenna in space < 20m X 10m- winner gets Royal
Flying Doctors of Australia cap rather than plaque

Please indicate on your soapbox entry on the Cabrillo form which
plaque
you may be trying to win. The Boring Amateur Radio Club is just trying to
produce the world's best radio contest and is not particularly adept at mind
reading, so specify to pacify our plaque awarding process.
You can join the above noted contesting giants! Determine a category
and then send me that email.
Some of you reading this have noticed that this is a CW only contest.
If you are fluent on voice or data only, you could start practicing the code
now and be ready to participate at the end of December. This contest is not
a macho poop-head speed contest. This contest is about making Q's with
distant stations on The Gentlemen's Band. This newly aquired CW skill would
then significantly increase the number of other contests you could engage
in. This contest is not as crowded as the other 160M contests so making a Q
with real DX is a real possibility.
Start negotiating your Holiday time now with loved ones so that
you can
come out and play in this edition of The Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge!
More notices will be forthcoming noting additional plaque sponsors and new
exhortations.
     See you in The Stew.
     73 and I remain,
     Lew W7EW/W7AT
